I'd never heard Warpaint before I caught their set opening for The Temper Trap, but, like a lot of concert goers, I came away a fan of the quartet's buzzy, sprawling art rock. Due to the low light, I rocked all primes, shooting with the Nikon 50mm f/1.4 and Nikon 85mm f/1.4 for the entire set.

Photographer's Notes:

Cameras Used:

  • Nikon D3
  • Nikon D700

Lenses Used:

For this set, I mostly shot wide open with my primes using the D3 and D700. At these wide apertures and particular glass (which I'd consider a little older style in their rendering in comparison to the super “clean” and cutting edge lenses like the Nikon 14-24mm), I think the dreamy quality worked well for Warpaint's sound.

While a wider prime option would have been nice, I was pleased just how nicely 50mm and 85mm worked for this set – the band's setup was pretty perfect for these focal lengths, even with a very narrow photo pit and limited mobility.
