Radiohead

With two encores and a righteous smackdown of light and sound, Radiohead's return to the stage for In Rainbows was nothing short of epic.

Photographer's Notes:

Had a blast photographing this concert. Any gig that involves Radiohead and catchflash is OK by me.

That, and a spread in SPIN:

Lighting:

The lighting for this show and its first three songs was relatively simple. Three distinct color treatments for each song – red, green, and blue, respectively. During the first song and its dull reddish hue, it was a actually a little concerning to think of what might be in store for all the press photographers. When the rich, eerie green of the second song made the show come to life from a photography perspective fo rme.

Lenses & Gear:

I shot this gig using the D3 with the trio of my f/2.8 zooms: 14-24mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, and 70-200mm f/2.8.

Exposure & Metering:

For the majority of the set, I shot at 1/200 and f/2.8 at ISO 3200, though ISO 6400 cam into play as well for some of the darker portions of the set.

During the dimmest part of the first song, which was easily the darkest of the alloted three, I dropped the shutter speed to 1/25 for a shot at 14mm. For the third song, I went up to 1/250 for a few sequences, bumping up to 1/500 for the brightest portions of the lighting scheme.
