Just back from Mayhem Fest 2011, and as always, it was a great event to photograph. Despite unrelenting heat throughout the day, there was just too much great metal to photograph to get too bogged down.

Here's a small preview from the day, including photos of Megadeth, Disturbed, Suicide Silence and Machine Head.

Photographer's Notes:

Cameras Used:

  • Nikon D3
  • Nikon D700

Lenses Used:

Full shooting notes coming up soon. I will say that though I lugged around the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 all day, I only used it for a handful of images and easily could have left it at home. When I did use it, it was on the smaller stages, which were lower in height, but even there the utility was pretty limited. Maybe this is growing up.

So far, I will say that some of my favorite sets included those by Megadeth and Machine Head, both of whom had great lighting and were a lot of fun to photograph. Suicide Silence also made for great shooting among the smaller stages.
