I was almost surprised when I saw that there was only one opener for Fall Out Boy on their Save Rock and Roll tour. Regardless, the Unlikely Candidates put on a energetic opening performance that made a surprisingly effective use out of simple lighting.

This was an ISO 6400 kind of shoot. And while you wouldn't think that the high resolution Nikon D800 would like that very much, this camera is perfectly at home at higher ISOs. No, it's no Nikon D4, but I've found the D800 to be very nice for live music photography in general, despite it's shortcomings. Perhaps part of that is the knowledge that I'll be able to make stupidly large prints out of these images one day.

    Sorry for raising relatively old post ( love the photos, BTW :) ), but I see you mentioned D4. I don’t recall, however, you ever testing it? Did you do it and neglected to put it online?
    Would love to see it in your hands =)
    Ever tested out Canons? With me being Canon shooter, I was interested in your opinion about 6D shooting low light events. How would you compose photos without having to crop images? I personally try not to crop ( on my 60D by cropping I raise quite a bit of digital noise – I HATE that :D And the noise is apparent even on ISO1600, don’t mind shooting that, but try to avoid say ISO3200 and above – that can only lead to 1 thing – B&W )

    Sorry for long post, usually don’t write that much – prefer to keep it short and simple – will try next time =)

    1. Hey Sasa,

      I have not tested the Nikon D4, though my brother has one and likes it.

      I don’t shoot with Canon, so I just stick to reviewing my Nikon gear. I think from a sensor point of view, the Canon 6D should be pretty capable as a low light camera. After all, it has a 20mp full-frame sensor, which at least in theory should perform very well at high ISO due to the modest pixel count relative to the sensor size (at least compared to a Nikon D800, for example).

      As for framing, I always frame to crop as little as possible. Personally, I hate cropping and prefer to get it right in-camera if at all possible.
