I've caught Machine Head a couple times, most recently at the big stage of Mayhem Fest, so I was curious to see how they'd tackle the smaller stage of Pop's. Curious, not doubting, because naturally they crushed it. This show was a headbanger.

Lenses Used:
I used a little of each lens, but the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 was the winner. For mid-sized clubs like Pop's, the midrange of this zoom gives just about everything you could want – 24mm is wide enough on full frame to give a nearly full-stage shot and 70mm is tight enough to make portraits.
That said, the nice part of a full kit is the added flexibility, even if it's just enough to help flesh out a set and help make images that the other guys in the pit won't be making.
In terms of lighting, this show started off with pure red lights in the first song, then progressed to green and finally blue in the third song. They were pretty much 100% pure washes, with just a little variety of yellow thrown in during the second song. Not fantastic to photograph, but then again, it's metal!
