Opening for Florence + The Machine on the last stop of her 2011 North American tour, Hanni El Khatib brought the garage rock stompfest in a tight set that had the sold-out house grooving.
The stripped down sound brought all raw, ripping energy of bands like The White Stripes and The Black Keyes with a flare, as El Khatib describes, “written for anyone who’s ever been shot or hit by a train. Knife fight music.”

This show was fun, but the treatment was as stripped down and raw as the music. Just warm, white-ish light from high in the rigging, with red coming in from the front sides. Still, I love photographing two-piece bands.
Naturally, the focus was on Hanni El Khatib, who received all the brightest light. The band performed in front of a black curtain that hid the backdrop and setup of Florence + The Machine, but somehow the tighter space at the front of the stage seemed to help channel the band's sound and make for a more intimate set.
Definitely recommend checking these guys out if you need a garage rock, soul-punk fix.
