When your most popular single is titled “Lights,” it makes one wonder what kind of stage treatment you're going to bring on tour. Ellie Goulding brought a first class light show and vocals to her sold out performance at the Pageant. Despite a third song filled almost entirely with red lights, this show was still a blast to photograph. Hit the jump for the full set and my shooting notes from this performance.

Again, another test for the Nikon D800. I left the Nikon D3 and D700 at home. For the most part, shooting with just one body proved to work just fine for this particular show, in part due to the fact that Ellie Goulding's mic stand was set back from the from of the stage far enough that the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II was a great option.
For this set, the speed of the D800 didn't seem to be much of a hinderance. And of course the upside of shooting with a ridiculous 36mp camera? Ridiculous 36mp files.
In terms of lighting, this set was solid for the first two songs, but the third song was pretty much a wash. Specifically, a wash of almost pure red light. The only saving grace was some orange/yellow uplighting center stage positioned near Ellie's mic stand, which helped a good deal to cut through the red haze.
