Music Photography Discord

If you're looking to learn about music photography, we've built a new Music Photography Discord community just for you. Whether you photograph concerts, festivals, artist portraits or tour, all music photographers are welcome.

We created this community as a place for music photographers of all levels to come together to network, share their work, and for all of us to learn from each other. Whether you're just diving into concert photography or a music industry veteran, this is a space for all of us to share in our passion for music photography.

What is Discord?

Discord is a messaging app like Slack where you can chat with others. Unlike social media, there are no followers and no algorithm dictating what messages are seen and which ones aren't.

Don't worry, Discord is easy to learn. The most important part isn't knowing how to use the platform, it's in how you conduct yourself and what you can add to the community. It's all about helping each other.

Who should join the Music Photography Discord?

Who should join the Music Photography Discord? Everyone who wants a positive place to learn and share and encourage each other. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, we are looking for everyone to add their voice in a way that can foster community and positivity in the music photography world.

If you're looking to learn about music photography, this place is for you.

If you want to level up your game in business or technique, this place is for you.

If you want to share your knowledge and foster a new generation of music photographers, this place is for you.

Topics for Music Photography

We have our Discord organized into various channels for different topics. All the channels are mean to guide discussions and encourage learning and sharing knowledge.

These are the main channels we have in the music photo discord:

  • #general — general chat or for general music photography questions that don't fall into one of the other categories/channels
  • #photos — for sharing your work or asking for feedback
  • #jobs — for posting photo jobs or asking for referrals
  • #technique — questions on software, camera technique, editing and post-processing
  • #business — for questions on pricing, negotiating, professional etiquette, etc
  • #gear — questions on cameras, lenses, etc

Server Rules

Respect Everyone: This community is an extension of the photo pit, where everyone should give the same level of respect. We have photographers of all experiences and backgrounds here and this is our strength — be kind and be respectful to all.

No Whining: There are many places to whine, complain and expel negativity. This isn't one of them.

Be Kind:
Be positive. Be supportive. Be kind. This place is not about building ego, it's about building the community.

No Spam: Self promotion should be limited to sharing photos in the #photos channels and posting socials in the #intro channel.

Constructive Dialogue: This is a community we want to focus on learning, education and inspiration. Content that doesn’t support constructive dialogue and discussion or that otherwise does not benefit the community will be removed.

A place for positive community

In the Music Photography discord, we value positivity and helpfulness. Bullying, put downs, disrespect, trolling, invalidating someone's perspective or experience, ego driven rants and other negativity will not tolerated.

We want to create a place where it's safe to ask questions, to learn and to grow.

Highlights of the Music Photography Discord

Starting this Discord server for fellow music photographers has been a highlight of this past year for me. We have nearly 1,000 members. The photos and business channels in particular have been great to see grow in particular.

In the business channel alone, here are some of the topics we've seen covered in the last few months:

  • pricing tour photography
  • negotiating with clients
  • cold emails to potential clients
  • pricing for merchandise
  • selling prints
  • approaching publications as a contributor

Join a community of music photographers

Wherever you are in your music photography journey, I hope you'll join us. Ask questions, share your experience, level up on the business side, network or just come and hang.
