January 8, 2009 – Supporting Lil Wayne on the I Am Music Tour, Keyshia Cole soaked up the spotlight in a brawny, energetic set. Despite a half a dozen dancers in tow, Cole had no problem making sure all eyes were on her, delivering one of the most engaging and active performances of the night.
Photographer's Notes:
I have to give it to the Grammy Award-nominated singer: she's puts on a heck of a show. Despite sharing the bill with four other performances, Keyshia Cole was among the most fun to photograph.
Not only did Cole cover the entire stage and back platform in just the first two songs, my allotted shooting time, but she did so with undeniable flare flair.
With respect to her dancers, I found the secondary subjects made for some nice opportunities to play with composition in ways that wouldn't have been possible with a solo singer.
I shot this performance using the Nikon D3 and Nikon 200-400mm f/4. While f/4 isn't very fast by most concert standards, this was an arena show and I wasn't disappointed by the spotlight treatment. I shot wide open at 1/500 and ISO 2000 for this set.
