The Pageant is packed with kids wearing black t-shirts who all want three things: face-melting riffs, pummeling double-bass, and a guitarist who isn't afraid to wear a cape. Headlining four performances and following Dillinger Escape Plan, Killswitch Engage delivered on all accounts with a heavy dose of melodic metal that had the pit heaving.

Greg Puciato and the rest of The Dillinger Escape Plan take the stage calmly enough, but seconds into their set, we're being crushed by an assault of hyper-technical riffs, complex time-signatures, and the end-is-here urgency of the hulking frontman's vehement vocals.

Warding off the cold, Quietdrive laid down a tight, half-hour set that had the 2200 bodies in the Pageant bouncing to the band's bright pop punk melodies in the perfect warm-up to A Very Ludo Christmas 2007.

The Walkmen @ the Duckroom — 2008.01.21

The host to Chuck Berry's monthly residency, Blueberry Hill's Duckroom, is filling up with bodies and smoke, but tonight, the rock'n roll legend has the night off. By the time Hamilton Leithauser and crew take the stage, it's just past 11pm, one of my new front-row friends is on his fourth round of Jack, and the crowd is ready for the incendiary rock. The Walkmen are happy to oblige.

The Hush Sound @ the Pageant — 2007.12.27

If it weren't for their short set, and early start time, one might think The Hush Sound were headlining at the Pageant December 27. Opening for Ludo in a sold out event, The Hush Sound packed the house with a legion of their own dedicated fans, who sang along with every note of the youthful indie rockers' set.

After a quick photo shoot with the Dresden Dolls prior to their show, it was time to come in for the real deal: the live performance. In their singular brand of "Brechtian punk cabaret," the Dolls rocked the house in a raucous set that affirmed the duo's status as one of the best live shows around.

Walking back from the promo shoot, Brian and Amanda of the Dresden Dolls saw the line waiting outside the venue and Amanda remarked that it would be great if I could get a few shots of the crowd. Ever happy to oblige, I headed over to make a few snaps of the fans waiting for doors.
