It was great seeing the Urge back in top form at Pointfest, years since their last proper show together, not that their performance belied any gap in rocking out for the masses.
Even better? The band let photographers cover the entirety of their performance, in contrast to the entire rest of the festival lineup that limited photography to the first three songs.

This show was tough to shoot for the simple reason that the main source of light was spotlights. I know, you're thinking, “But that sounds great!” And it's true – spotlights are awesome. The tricky part was that with so many performers on stage, only two seemed to be lit at any given time. Furthermore, with the spots doing so much of the work, the backlighting felt a little underplayed at times.
The solution for this was just trying to pay particular attention to the flare-ups in the backlighting to catch the best balance.
For this set, the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 dominated. Monitors at the front of the relatively high stage always kill wider angles for me, and the Urge's set was no exception.
At this show, it was announced that the Urge are doing two back to back shows at my home away from home, the Pageant, and you better believe I'll be shooting.
