Closing down LouFest 2012, not even a torrential Summer downpour could stop the Flaming Lips from capping off the festival in perfect style. Performing even as it continued to rain, the Lips delivered their signature and fine-tuned brand of celebratory mayhem on stage, complete with confetti, giant balloons, smoke, and lasers. And of course, the ubiquitous (and world famous) hamster ball.

As always, photographing the Flaming Lips was a blast. The band packs more craziness into the three songs than many bands do in an entire performance. And actually, I should say two songs, because that's basically when all these images were shot – the third song in the set, “Is David Bowie Dying?”, was a haze-filled, green-laser number that was basically turned into a break for all the photographers to catch their collective breath.
Needless to say, even with just “two” songs of shooting, the Flaming Lips were the easily the highlight of my time at LouFest 2012. Even having photographed them before at a club like the Pageant, it was a blast getting the proper “festival” treatment with the Flaming Lips.
