I'd first seen Lupe Fiasco in 2007 and photographed him two times since, including at Lollapalooza 2008. However, I have to say that his performance at the Chaifetz Arena for Generation Lasers was one of my favorites yet.
Photographer's Notes:
Cameras Used:
- Nikon D3
- Nikon D700
Lenses Used:
I'll just come out and say it. I regret not bringing my Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 to this show. I've been reluctant to bring that lens along over the last year, as I've been trying to ween myself from it to some degree, but Lupe Fiasco would have been a fantastic show for the ultra-wide.
Lupe spent a huge amount of time at the front of the stage, and despite lots of monitors and a relatively high ego riser center stage, the 14mm field of view would have been excellent on the Nikon D3 or Nikon D700.
Even without an ultra-wide option, I had a blast at this show. The Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 provided great coverage – I only used the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 for a few obligatory, tighter shots in the first song.
Overall. Lupe Fiasco's energy was seemingly relentless. The first three songs of this show felt super charged, and I was sprinting at times just to try and keep up and get into position for the shots I wanted to make.
Lighting was a little boring during the first song (but well lit), while the second and third songs much more interesting (and harder to photograph).
