Hanson brought the Shout It Out Tour to a house full of adoring fans at The Pageant in the most energetic show I've seen from the brothers to date. While the lighting wasn't as beautifully airy as their performance at The Bamboozle Festival in New Jersey, the soft, understated treatment worked well for photographing the trio – so much so that I didn't miss the spotlights of their last show at the Pageant.
Photographer's Notes:
This was a high energy show – I don't think I'd seen Taylor jumping around quite as much as he did at this show, to the point of pogoing center stage. One really nice aspect of this gig, in contrast to the last show of Hanson's that I caught at the Pageant, was the fairly “democratic” lighting. While the previous show had spotlights on Isaac and Taylor, Zac was left in the dark. While the overall lighting was much dimmer this time around, the more level lighting made it a more enjoyable shoot, especially with the inclusion of more accent effects from the back of the stage.

Lenses Used:
While I wouldn't call it overly bright, this show was lit well enough to use f/2.8 glass at ISO without much complaint. The Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 was great for close-up shots of all the band members, since everyone was set back from the very front of the stage. The midrange Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8, on the other hand, was great for a few wider shots of the stage and when Isaac stepped out from his mic stand to rock out.
End Notes:
Want more Hanson? Check out their set from The Bamboozle – my favorite shoot of them so far.
