One of my very favorite discoveries of last year was the band Greek Fire. More than anything, they're a band with so much heart that it smacks you in the head like a crowd surfer's size-12 Doc Martin.
I had the pleasure of photographing them three times last year, and every time I've been blown away. Their Pointfest 30 performance was no exception.
This is a band that seems to pull out something new each and every time I see them. Whether it's singing in the crowd, crowd surfing on a mattress, or having frontman Moon literally walking over the crowd. The real trick – and here's where that heart comes in – is that it feels special every time.

Honestly, if you're another music photographer or just a fan of music, please go see these guys. I know you'll enjoy the show. In fact, for my Los Angeles friends, they're playing the Viper Room in just a couple weeks, June 4. Go see them there before they're conquering the likes of the Greek Theater, the Wiltern – or hell, the Staples Center.
Another reason to help support these guys is that their drummer, Johnny Venus, was recently diagnosed with leukemia. They just released this self-made video for their song “If This Is The End”:
This song is available for download on iTunes and Amazon.com, with all proceeds going toward paying for Johnny's medical treatment.
