After Godsmack took the stage, frontman Sully Erna announced that the band didn't bring any fancy effects, confetti, or pyro. They only brought the rock show, and then proceeded to demonstrate that fact.
For me, this was an excellent shoot due to how well drummer Shannon Larkin was lit, not to mention the great expressions Larkin pulled while rocking his kit.

It's not every day the drummer gets lit as well as the singer, but in terms of visual interest, that's exactly how Godsmack's set played out for me at Mayhem Fest. Drummer Shannon Larkin was very well lit, relatively, and his kit and positioning made shooting him a lot of fun during Godsmack's set. His great facial expressions didn't hurt, either.
Overall, this was a pretty straight forward set – plenty of beautiful white light all over the stage, good action, and an overall fun shoot. No fuss, just the rock.
