This past summer, I caught up with Disclosure, the UK's hottest dance act, as they performed at Lollapalooza 2013 as part of the duo's first US tour. I was on assignment for Q Magazine, and I had a blast hanging out with Guy and Howard at the festival, conquering Chicago deep dish pizza, and latter on at their after party set at The Mid nightclub.
As a music photographer, this was my first time covering a festival where I was tasked with shadowing only one artist. It was a completely refreshing experience to be able to pop in with Disclosure, cover them and their set, and then leave the insanity of a large festival behind. Thanks to Guy and Howard for being so easy to work with as well, this was a great assignment.

I had a blast following Guy and Howard of Disclosure for their day in Chicago. The Nikon D800 I used were great for this type of shooting — immense resolution to work with, and plenty fast enough for the action of an electronic due like Disclosure.
The Sony RX1 even made an appearance in the print edition of Q Magazine in the feature, capturing some — the camera was just small enough that it was harmless enough to slip in for more casual moments, where a larger camera might feel out of place.
For the portrait, I used the ever nice Photek Softlighter II and a Nikon SB-800 speedlight. The Softlighter is an excellent choice for a location modifier because it packs up relatively small, it's easy to set up, and it's cheap enough that if it gets destroyed or mangled on set, you're not out a ton of money. And, if the Softlighter is good enough for Annie Leibovitz, it's good enough for me!
