Chris Brown's F.A.M.E. Tour 2011 brought a huge ramp setup, a small army of backup dancers and, yes, even a few lasers to the big stage of the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Here's the photographic proof.
Photographer's Notes:
Cameras Used:
- Nikon D3
- Nikon D700
Lenses Used:
This show contained tons of movement, particularly after the first song when, when Chris Brown came down from his high riser position to center stage. The last time I saw this kind of choreographed dancing and energy on stage, it was for Usher's 2010 arena tour.
I made sure to keep my shutter speeds up well above the “normal” of 1/200 or 1/250, which are generally suitable for rock bands. Thanks to spotlights and bright LEDs on Chris Brown the entire first three, exposure was not a problem for this show. The main challenge was simply keeping up.
In terms of gear, the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 on the Nikon D700 was the king here, though the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 on the Nikon D3 was a must for distance shots of Chris when he started at the back of the stage.
