As always, Andrew Bird delivered a spectacular performance at the Pageant, delivering a swirling, lush set that was matched by beautiful, hazy lighting, including some particularly stunning “animations” at the back of the stage.

It's always a small challenge when you're photographing a solo musician (yes, even when backed by a full band), but Andrew Bird is anything but boring as a subject. Constant movement and changing technique keep things more than interesting for Bird's set.
Lighting for this performance was gorgeous and very similar to what Andrew Bird has employed in the past. Plenty of haze at the back of the stage to pick up backlighting and make the accent lighting pop.
Frontlighting was very present, but not super bright. As such, the f/1.4 I was using were fantastic. They let me shoot at 1/200 and above, which, for all of Andrew Bird's nervous ticks to the left, was very welcome.
