Hard rockers Papa Roach attacked the stage following Sick Puppies to deliver a fiery performance for the packed out house of the Scottrade Center.

Photographer’s Notes:
Papa Roach was great to photograph. With bright, white light on the band members, lots of activity on stage, and a big show from the back of the stage, there was a lot to like about this show.
All the band members at the front of the stage were generously lit by spot lights, so stage light for this show was not a problem. Keeping shutter speeds high was generally as easy as it was necessary, as the band was very active during the three songs I photographed.
For this performance, the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 and Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 were in heavy use. Due to the heavy movement by the band right at the front of the stage, the 70-200mm wasn’t employed to any great degree.
Lead guitarist Jerry Horton in particular was a blast to shoot, with plenty hair whips and time rocking out at the edge of the stage.

These guys are my favorites and I am determined to get a great session (other than the one I had in August, but that was daylight so…). But being an amateur I have a lot to learn. Plus I can only get down to like f5.6 or some such higher number. Awesome photos. It’s my goal to get clarity like these!
Hey Lorraine,
Thanks for the comment – hope you get to catch Papa Roach sometime next year, they certainly put on a fun show to photograph.
Daylight shows are always a blessing and a curse. There’s always enough light, but at the same time the atmosphere just isn’t the same.
Hey Todd,
Great set of Papa Roach, I was lucky enough to shoot them myself in October…if you get chance have a look at my shots and see what you think – http://davemussonphotography.wordpress.com/2009/10/16/papa-roach-wolverhampton-civic-hall-6th-october-09/
I also got to do a quick portrait shoot as well.
Great work again, have a great Christmas!
Dave
These turned out great. Very clear and sharp. I shot them myself in november though then there seemed to be less lighting. I’m still trying to get used to the somewhat bigger shows.
