Poor lighting? Where? I’m not saying that these are your best shots but they aren’t bad at all.

You managed to do something good here, despite all the problems that you refer.

Hey Laurent, thanks for the feedback. #8 has a little bit of “catchflash” from a P&S in the crowd. People were snapping constantly during the first few songs.

You should check out the Nikon D700, it has the same sensor and image processor as the D3!

Wow this set is great! I love the number 8 ( Everything is great in this photo, the angle, the lightning the attitude of Andrew McMahon! ). I understand why you just shot him, and not his musicians, he seems to have such charisma! Wow the D3’s 6400 iso is so clean, i hope Canon will have something like that for the EOS 5Mkii, otherwise i may switch ;)

Hey Chris, thanks as always for the detailed comments. I think #6 is my favorite, too. It was just a moment when the background lighting was up and giving a great glowing effect.

I haven’t even downloaded the images from the first three bands, though I think I may have something to show from Treaty of Paris. We’ll see.

Ammmmazing. Man I love this band, so so so much — they put on a great show. My picks are 2, 4, 6 and 9. He’s in such a cool position in 2, it kind of gives an almost “bluesy” feel, no pun intended [and I forgot to rotate my camera a bit during this show to get those cool angles! crap!]. I really dig the eye contact in number 4; plus is mouth is making that cool little smirk. I’d have to say number 6 is my favorite — it’s a bit closer and there is so much energy coming off of him it’s addicting! I tried to catch shots like number 9, but just never did a great job at it — but his hands in the air, one hand on the keyboard, and a smile makes for a catchy composition! I guess I’ll also mention 7 because I like how he’s turning around and yelling… it’s different that what would normally be shot, but I still like the feel it gives off.

Great set! Now… for those first 3 bands…. [yeah, I got nothing... at all].

Hey Jason, thanks for the comment. I agree, Andrew McMahon is a great subject.

I almost feel a little guilty that I didn’t photograph other members of the band, but I think it’s something I can live with.

Andrew really does have a great stage presence, no doubt. He’s not saving anything for the encore when he performs.

Wow. So many great shots from a (relatively) stationary subject. I think his stage presence easily overwhelms any clutter you may have been distracted by.

Hey Tasha! Well, I guess that’s what ISO 6400 is for. Also, two shots in the selection include a little catchflash, and that never hurts.

There were a few brief moments when the background lighting created a nice halo effect without flaring up the entire frame, but it was definitely a fine balance.

Thanks for your comments! I’ll be looking out for your Metal Mayhem shots, I’m glad you got to shoot that. And I’ll try to do some justice to your boys Treaty of Paris, but I must say, the light was not on our side.
