Anthony Hamilton

Anthony Hamilton -- 20080.07.05

R&B and neo-soul singer Anthony Hamilton delivered an energetic set Independence Day weekend as part of the Celebrate St. Louis festival series July 5, 2008.

Packing the Solider’s Memorial Park, Hamilton wasted no time laying into a tight and animated performance, working the length of the stage with nearly every song. Hamilton’s performance was the second of this year’s festival series, the first of which was a performance by soul singer Joss Stone.

Photographer’s Notes:

I’ll say one thing: Anthony Hamilton loves to work the stage. Tracking this R&B singer was a nice work out as he went from side to side a dozen times during the first two songs.

Exposure & Metering:

I shot this set locked at 1/400 at f/3.5 and ISO 1600.

Once again, nice photos! I love the effect you are able to give to these daylight concerts!

  2. Todd says:

Hey Celso, thanks very much. These outdoor festival shots were a nice change of pace from the indoor gigs, as there are different variables to consider in some ways.

  3. Celso says:

I was wondering, when you started IShootShows.com what was your target audience? People into music, into photography, or into both?
    Just out of curiosity!

  4. Todd says:

    Hey Celso,

When I started ishootshows.com, I really wanted to create a resource for other concert photographers, so they were certainly a core target audience from the start. In addition, I have always wanted to use ISS as a way to share images of artists with their fans.

The basic groups you mention are right on: people into music, into photography, and then the intersection of those groups as well.

  5. Celso says:

Well, with the quality of your work is easy to achieve what you were looking for! And the content is dead on! Informative but not too technical, it’s perfect for people starting out who know so little about this world, like me…

I have to say that I come here more for the inspirational part than for the technical part. But still I like to read what you write about the difficulties and singularities of each show!

    Keep it up!

  6. Todd says:

Thanks for the feedback, Celso! I do try to strike a balance between content that will appeal to photographers and fans alike. If anything here has inspired you, I take that as a huge compliment, so thank you.

Love your photos of Anthony Hamilton. He’s an expressive and highly emotive singer and you captured him perfectly! He’s also a beautiful subject

  8. Todd says:

Hey Laura, Anthony was a lot of fun to photograph, he’s a great performer. Thanks for the feedback.

  9. Great photos, my brother! I just saw him live last night, and have NEVER heard someone sound so good in a live setting.
