After a few busy past few weeks preparing for the gallery show, I expected things to slow down a little, but it just wasn’t in the cards. Following the opening, the Dresden Dolls rolled into town, a newspaper got in touch to write a small feature, and contracts were signed for an exciting opportunity. But, without further delay, I’m pleased to announce that the online version of gallery show is now up:
An Exhibit of Concert Photography
For anyone familiar with my own portfolio or personal favorites, the collection probably won’t come as any huge surprise, but I hope you enjoy the selection. The actual show will be up for another month, so for anyone in the city who hasn’t seen it yet, I’ll be happy to meet up with you if you can make it to Suite 100.
In other news, the newspaper feature on the exhibit ran in the Sunday edition of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and included two images from the show. I sent the newspaper’s photo editor a set of six images, but I was happy to see that Fab and Zach made the final cut. Personally, I think it’s great that the hometown hero beat out Sting, Morrissey, and others for a little newspaper real estate.
Here’s a clipping of the newspaper piece:

The short write-up is also available online here.
As a final bit of news, I’m pleased to announce my representation through Retna, an independent photo agency that specializes is entertainment images. Retna’s clients include nearly all major music media, including MTV, Spin, and Rolling Stone. While the agency covers many aspects of entertainment, one interesting fact is that the company was founded by British music photographer Michael Putland, a man with an impressive roll call of rock legends tucked into his portfolio.
I’m not quite there yet, but I’m working on it. Thanks again to everyone who has shown me support with this little diversion of music photography.

I couldn’t be more happy for you brah.
Thanks, Chris. It would have been great to have you there at the opening. We’ll have to set up a join Owyoung Bros show as Gabi suggested.
Congrats Todd! Your photography is amazing!
Thanks, Will! It’s been an interesting trip arriving at this point, but we’ll have to see where it goes from here.
Very cool! Great images for the show, including a couple I hadn’t seen before that were great (as usual); nice article in the paper; and stellar news on the agency deal…you deserve it!
You picked some wonderful shots for the exhibition. How big were the prints? Did you video the whole thing by any chance or have some pics from the actual exhibition? Anyway, well done!!! Oh, and the press coverage is great too :-)
Congrats on the gallery showing and getting accepted to Retna! I’m trying to get represented as well, wish me luck.
Byran: It’s good to hear you hadn’t seen some of the shots, I’d hoped to include some lesser viewed images as well. Thanks as always.
Carsten: Thanks for looking at the shots. I printed these images 12″x18″ and framed them at 18″x24″, which worked out to be a very good size for the show. If the space were any larger, I think I would go up to 18″x24″ prints with even larger framing. I have a few snaps of the actual show that I’ll try to find for you, but I will try to go down to take a proper shot of the setup, too.
Byran: Thanks, and good luck to you on representation! My advice is to keep at it, persistence is necessary for this sort of thing, as the photography directors are just so busy. Thanks again.
Major congratulations, Todd. That’s a very impressive spread and write-up. It was a great night, and a great first gallery opening. I know it won’t be your last. I hope the good news keeps rolling in and continues to keep you more busy than you plan. Within reason.
Thanks, Brad, it was great that you could make it to the opening, I was happy to have you there. We’ll see how things go from there, but it’s been a great start to 2008.
